Vernon C. Cope, 88, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, January 11, 2022, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. He was born September 8, 1933, in Hunker, a son of the late Fedorin Cope and Harriet R. (DeArmitt) Shupe-Cope. Prior to retirement he had been employed by Hempfield Township. Vernon was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Youngwood, Foxhill Sportsman’s Club and Roosevelt Club, Hempfield Township. He was an Army veteran serving during the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Mildred Ansell, Evelyn Young, John Cope, Ernest Cope, and Roy Cope. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen L. (Murphy) Cope; four children, Cindy Cope, Jeff Cope, Edward Cope (Denise), and Linda Rock (Brian); nine grandchildren, Tracy Dalicandro (Justin Jacobsky), Nick Cope (Cassidy), Candis Hannick (Chris), Melissa Cope, Steven Cope (Emily), Laken Cope, Ashley Kauffman (Jake), Sara Hresko (Andrew), and Tyler Rock; 21 great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Morgan, Skye, Fedora, Penelope, Presley, Ben, Darin, Charlotte, Skyy, Mia, Addison, Reese, Elizea, Bryce, Jordynn, Gracie, Jayce, Kennedy, Cole, and Tinley; his sister, Margaret Lutz; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Martin and Patricia Altman; sister-in-law, Betty Murphy; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 3 to 7 PM Thursday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg. A funeral service will begin at 10 AM Friday in the funeral home with Pastor Peter Nordby officiating. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park with Full Military Honors accorded by the VFW Post No. 33, Greensburg Honor Guard.
