Sandra Walts Grogan
July 29, 1935 - June 15, 2021 (Age 85)
Sandra Walts Grogan “Sandie”, 85, of Charlotte, NC, went peacefully to be with her loving Savior on Tuesday, June 15, 2021.
Sandra was born in Schenectady, NY, on July 29, 1935 to Harry and Gertrude Walts. She spent her school age years in the small New York villages of Andes and Middleburgh. After graduating from Middleburgh Central School, Sandra went on to Elmira College in New York, majoring in Speech and French. While in college, she was chosen to sing with "The All American Chorus". They toured and sang in 7 countries in Europe one summer. Later, she went on to become an airline stewardess, which is where she met her future husband. Over the years, she taught French and various other subjects to elementary through high school students. She also taught Adult Basic Education classes at Cleveland Community College in Shelby, NC, for a period of time.
Sandra always loved to sing, whether it was in a choir, leading worship or singing in nursing homes. Her heart's desire was to glorify God and spread His love to others. She also participated in prison ministry and even sang for the prisoners at Attica in New York.
In 2009, she moved to Charlotte to be near her daughter and older brother and their families. She is survived by her daughter, Beth Allen (husband Richard); her 3 grandsons: Anthoney Allen (wife Kellee), Richard James Allen and Bryson Allen; her 4 great grandchildren: Aspen, Austin, Aaliyah and Aiden; her brothers: Richard Walts and Dale Walts (wife Carol) and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Bruce Walts.
A celebration of Sandra's life will be held at Mecklenburg Shrine Club (where Eastside Church is currently meeting because of renovations) at 5200 Mecklenburg Shrine Club Road, Charlotte, NC, 28215, on Saturday, June 19, 2021. Visitation will begin at 10 AM with service to follow at 11 AM. Following the service, Sandra will be taken in formal procession to her final place of earthly rest at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Charlotte.
