Robert J. Mullen, Florida and formerly of Scranton, died Saturday at Harbor Chase of Coral Springs in Florida where he enjoyed his retirement. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Frances Lieberman, in 1998.
Born in Scranton on August 15, 1934, he was the son of the late Francis (Frank) Mullen and Mary Eagen Mullen. He graduated from Dunmore High School. He worked for Rodeway Express and was a proud member of Teamsters Local 229 prior to his retirement.
He treasured his summers at Lake ariel where he was always surrounded by family and friends, and took great pride in his gardens. He hosted countless card games where the laughter could be heard well into the night, and will always be remembered as the lake horseshoe champion who loved to dance and sing to Irish music.
Surviving are daughters, Rhonda Sugarman and husband Steve; Kathy Maita and husband Christopher; and Karen Fiske; son, Kevin; sister Mary Mosher; brother Martin Mullen and wife Celestine; as well as 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Hallock, and his sister, Elaine Mullen Griffiths.
A funeral service will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore. Friends may call from noon until the time of service. All those attending are asked to follow current safety guidelines in respect to wearing a mask and social distancing.
Interment to follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Township.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the ARC of Northeast PA in honor of his grandson, Danny Sugarman.
