Richard J. Bishop
July 31, 1932 - April 27, 2021 (Age 88)
Richard “Dick” Joseph Bishop, age 88, of Matthews, passed away on April 27, 2021 at his residence. He was born in Bethlehem, PA on July 31, 1932 to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Chiz) Bishop. Dick served in the US Navy from 1950-1953 and then received his BS in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University in 1957. He worked as an electrical engineer at IBM for 35 years. He was a member of St John Neumann Catholic Church. Dick loved fishing, spending time with his 3 grandchildren, and sharing his vast knowledge of everything.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 55 years Diane (Nagy) Bishop; one son, Richard Bishop and his wife Cheryl of Little Elm, TX; one daughter, Barbara Hughes of Lenoir, NC; three grandchildren, Jennifer and Marcus Hughes, and Elizabeth Bishop; one brother, Thomas Bishop and his wife Barbara of Rochester, NY; nieces and nephews, Kenneth and Kevin Bishop, and Kristen and Michael Nagy. He enjoyed extended family members: (late) stepmother Arlene Bishop; step siblings, Shirley Pany and Michael Churetta; and numerous more nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on May 1,2021 at 1:30pm at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Charlotte, NC. Graveside Service will be held on May 1,2021 at 3:00pm at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, NC. Memorials may be made to Novant Health Hospice.
