Joseph Kish

August 6, 1929 - April 26, 2021 (Age 91)

Joseph Kish, 91, of Mint Hill, North Carolina, died Monday, April 26, 2021, at his daughter’s home in Concord. Through the blessing of hospice, he was able to be surrounded by family.

Joe was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, on August 6, 1929, one of nine children born to Michael and Mary Hresko Kish. He grew up there and after school, he answered his country’s call to service and enlisted in the United States Air Force. While stationed in Illinois, on a blind date, Joe met a beautiful young woman from Missouri named Wilma “Billie” Hodges, and on February 23, 1952, they were married, remaining lifelong friends and companions for almost 69 years before Billie died on February 5, 2021. After an honorable discharge, Joe went to work for IBM. His talent for working with logical processes led him to become a Technical Writer for them. Around the house, Joe was constantly the setup man, though he did not always plan it that way. His logic and intelligence would lead him to make statements that his wife would then capitalize on to the amusement of everyone. Joe also enjoyed time spent outside. He enjoyed hunting and gardening, and was best known for the blueberries he grew. Joe also had a talent for baking and he would often combine his blueberries with his New York style cheesecakes, much to the appreciation of many of his neighbors and friends. Most of all, he enjoyed the blessings he created for others, and he will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Joe is survived by three children: Stephen Kish of Mint Hill, Sharon (husband Lenny) Cordell of Concord, NC, and Susan (husband Kevin) Klein of Memphis, TN; seven grandchildren: Michael (wife Lauren) Kish, Katie (husband Ryan) Cachilli, Emily (husband Billy) Balshuweit, Sean (wife Teigan) Foley, Jacob (wife Lindsay) Cordell, Andrew (wife Miranda) Cordell, and Michael (wife Maggie) Klein; and eight grandchildren: MJ and Liam Kish, Elizabeth and Lucas Cachilli, Liam Balshuweit, Neala and Saoirse Foley, and Blye Klein. Joe is further survived by his three sisters: Annie Mickulik, Mary (husband John) Kula and Elizabeth Scavone; a sister-in-law, Lea Kish; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie, on February 5, 2021 https://www.loweneddofuneralhome.com/obituaries/Wilma-Kish/#!/Obituary; five siblings; and his parents.

Joe’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for him and for them. Weather permitting, a graveside service will be held at 3:30 pm on Friday, April 30, 2021, at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227.
