George H. Wisenbarger

June 18, 1944 - January 19, 2022 (Age 77)

George Howard Wisenbarger, 77, of Cambridge, died Wednesday (January 19, 2022) at Genesis Hospital, Zanesville.

He was born June 18, 1944 in Navarre, son of the late Chester H. Wisenbarger and Eva Mae (Rayner) Wisenbarger. He was raised at the Guernsey County Children’s Home with six of his siblings.

A 1963 graduate of Cambridge High School, George was a retired mason, excavator, truck driver, and comedian.

He was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Cambridge.

He was a member of the Trail Diner Lunch Club.

In the 1980’s, George was active with Little League Baseball, Bitty League Football, and coaching the Pike Dolphins. He loved taking vehicles of any kind to the limit. He enjoyed riding his Harley. He loved The Ohio State Buckeyes and attending sporting events with his family.

He will be deeply missed by his friends and family.

George was a US Marine Corps member, having served during the Vietnam Era as an MP stationed in Japan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Chester Jr. and Clarence “Ed”; four sisters, Dorothy Mae Casto, Minnie Gravens, Margeret Ann McAtee, and Ruth Wilson; and his beloved yellow lab, Buffy.

He is survived by his wife, Jacquelyn “Jackie” (Eckelson) Wisenbarger, whom he married March 27, 1965; two sons, Jay Wisenbarger (Melissa Yemick) of Cambridge and Joel Wisenbarger of Cambridge; three brothers, Richard (Sue) Wisenbarger of New Concord, Donald Lee (Okie) Wisenbarger of California, and Hubert (Phyllis) Wisenbarger of Cambridge; a sister, Eva Joan Proudfit of Kimbolton; two grandchildren, Angelica Wisenbarger (Peter Van Minnen) of Cincinnati and Camden Wisenbarger; several great-grandchildren; and three very special brothers-in-law.

Visitation will be held Monday (January 24, 2022) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held Tuesday (January 25, 2022) at 11 a.m. with Jim Gibson of the Guernsey County Veterans Council officiating. Friends and family are welcome, but due to COVID-19 please take all necessary precautions to ensure your safety and everyone else’s should you decide to attend.

Burial will be at Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge.
